The Alaska Research Consortium (ARC) is a 501(c)(3) community/industry organization that advocates for sustainable fisheries, marine science and the blue economy in the North Pacific.  ARC engages with a wide range of stakeholders whose aim is long-term economic opportunities through a sustainable seafood industry.  This, in turn, supports Alaska’s economy and its coastal communities.
In 2016, the seafood industry and community members formed the Alaska Research Consortium (ARC) in response to the potential closure of the Kodiak Seafood and Marine Science Center, operated by the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

To date, ARC has:
  • Contributed to the continued operation and programs of the University of Alaska’s Kodiak Seafood and Marine Science Center.
  • Sponsored a 40-hour Baader seafood processing machine operations class for industry.
  • Advocated for increased use of TVEP funds, contributed by seafood processing workers, for seafood training resulting in a full-time Seafood Workforce Training Coordinator based at KSMSC.
  • Completed the Alaska’s Seafood Future project outlining an action plan to support training, youth engagement and applied research supporting the seafood industry.
